Truth is, when I was young, naive and inexperienced, I saw it in a public market being sold at a very low price and I judged way to early and said to myself "hmm, that fish can't be good. It's so cheap! And it's sooo...black!"
But what did I know about fish? Nothing! My mom gave up cooking fish before I reached 6th grade (because all three us, well at least my brother and I will end up taking a very short trip to my aunt's carinderia and ask for pork nilaga or grilled pork belly.
So today I awoke craving for fish soup. Milkfish and tilapia are a little to bland for me and the maya-maya is way to oily. So, I went for the yellow-fin (really, it's tuna?!? Could've fooled me!)
I used to have house mate who swears by how delicious the Batangas' way of cooking the fish and I honestly believe her. It's the usual way the fish is cooked, for the typical Juan's anyways.
I really can't say yet how it's going to turn out (because I'm still waiting for the rice to cook. But I can already tell you this much, the soup hits the spot! In case it doesn't work out, I have my pineapple soy chicken left over from last night.
